Join the HJF Team!   A postdoctoral fellow position is immediately available within the laboratory of Dr. Ayesha Shafi who is seeking a highly motivated person to fill the position of Postdoctoral Fellow. This position provides excellent opportunities for continued scientific development and contributions at the interface between research and administration in a dynamic laboratory environment and larger interdisciplinary setting. The Shafi laboratory interests include the characterization of comprehensive molecular signatures, survival pathways and associated rational therapeutic targets in lethal prostate cancers, with a specific focus on circadian dysfunction, DNA repair, nuclear receptor function, environmental exposure, and their role in disease progression and therapeutic resistance. To achieve this, we generate and utilize novel genetically engineered in vitro and ex vivo models including human cells lines, human explant tissue, and human & mouse 3D organoid cultures, therapeutics, functional genomics, and molecular and genomic approaches (including next generation sequencing platforms, and CRISPR/Cas9 technology).   The Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team consisting of scientific and clinical investigators. Candidates should have a working knowledge of molecular biology, DNA damage repair, biochemistry, 3D organoid and in vitro modeling and basic knowledge of bulk omics and desire to learn spatial profiling. Within the Directorate is the NMRC Clinical Trials Center (CTC), a 3,500 square foot state-of-the-art facility located in Bethesda, MD that is equipped to conduct Phase 1 and 2 outpatient clinical trials. The NMRC CTC evaluates vaccines, therapeutics, prophylactics, and medical devices in human subjects to suitably advance innovative products from the laboratory to the front line and maximize the medical readiness of the Warfighter. To accomplish this, the DPAA executes recovery missions worldwide, and recovered material is analyzed in the state-of-the-art DPAA laboratory   HJF is seeking a Geographic Information Systems Analyst I (GIS Analyst I) to conduct research and field survey using geospatial methods to advance casework and identify sites associated with missing military personnel.  This role will perform complex geospatial research and analysis into the status of missing American service personnel from past wars.  Assignments include a variety of duties to include documentary research, imagery georeferencing, data management, datum conversion, imagery acquisition, historical document interpretation, secondary source readings, geographically bounded studies, field survey, survey mapping, witness interviews, method recommendation, map production and briefings to Agency leadership.

Join the HJF Team!   HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow - Bioinformatics to perform bioinformatics and data science research.  This position is in the Data Science Division in the Center for Military Precision Health at the Uniformed Services University, under the direction of Dr. Matthew Wilkerson (see https://www.usuhs.edu/node/122544 ).    The Postdoctoral Fellow will conduct applied bioinformatics research on cancer genomics and/or on characterization of models of human disease, depending on research interests, and develop manuscripts.  The Postdoctoral Fellow will also perform research in team science collaborations, such as in the Applied Proteogenomics and Organizational Learning and Outcomes (APOLLO) program, which provide opportunities for skillset and career growth (see https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36384096/ and https://proteomics.cancer.gov/news_and_announcements/apollo-researchers-uncover-novel-proteogenomic-features-lung-cancer).
