The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. HJF is seeking a Principal Investigator, Research Psychologist to interdisciplinary research, combining physical, computational, and life-science research to improve the efficiency and efficacy in the development of militarily relevant medical products for Force Health Protection. Drives programs and leads research progress.

 

This position will be in support of National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), under the Chief Medical Officer/ Chief Innovations Officer NICoE/DIN in support of the Co-Chairs of the Blast Clinical Threshold Working Group.  

 

Position is contingent on contract award.

Responsibilities

  • The incumbent will join the Office of the Chief Medical Officer for the Defense Intrepid Network reporting directly to the principle CMO.  NICoE is a DoD institute dedicated to providing cutting-edge evaluation, treatment, and research for service members dealing with complex interactions of mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and psychological health (PH) conditions.
  • Leads staff and teams in the identification, development, and application of scientific principles to diverse research problems and execution of multiple cross-disciplinary computational research projects and programs.
  • Keeps abreast of important scientific advancement in all relevant areas of medical research, including translational research for developing new projects and programs.
  • Develops necessary new technologies and protocols, assesses the strengths and weaknesses of the progress of projects and programs. Collects, processes, and interprets experimental data and model outputs.
  • Leads the identification, initiation, development, and maintenance of both internal and external research collaborations for research projects and development of new approaches to existing research problems.
  • Writes and reviews all aspects of the preparation, submission, and presentation of research proposals, progress reports, manuscripts, and high-level programmatic reviews.
  • Presents research accomplishments and progress in programmatic review as well as appropriate scientific conferences.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

 

  • Proficiency in SAS or Tableau, proven experience with the MHS Data Repository (MDR) and MHS Mart (M2)
  • Preferred experience with engagement in research in the fields of neurology/ and or behavior health from military related injuries.
  • Experience with epidemiology
  • Leader who guides staff in all aspects of computational projects and proposal development
  • Expert knowledge of applicable complex scientific projects
  • Incumbent requires and strong data analytics and latest statistical skill to engage the combining of disparate data sets to address delivery of solutions related to a specialized research project to develop a blast dose clinical threshold scale in a military population exposed to repetitive brain injury.
  • Can work independently in executing project protocol; has critical assessment skills for expansion of hypothesis development and testing in a setting of complex occupational brain injury exposure and clinical biomarker assessments.

  • Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Education and Experience

  • Doctoral Degree in Psychology or Neuroscience or related science discipline. 
  • Minimum of 9-10 years’ experience required.
