Mainly works performing independent research in a focused problem area.   This position is focused on Toxicology. We develop and apply AI/computational/modeling solutions for predicting absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion, and toxicity (ADMET) properties in drug development. We develop in vitro and in vivo toxicity mechanisms of drugs and industrial chemicals using systems toxicology and develop whole-organism toxicity response models using transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomic data.

HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to the MCCRP and CPDR. The incumbent will apply bioinformatics and data mining technologies to the study of prostate cancer and other human cancers, using genomic, proteomic, and clinicopathologic data acquired both internally and with our collaborators, as well as from the public domain. The incumbent will support multiple CPDR research projects.   About CPDR: CPDR is an interdisciplinary translational prostate cancer research program of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) Department of Surgery and the John P. The Research Assistant provides laboratory and technical support to senior technical and professional staff and solves problems of standard complexity in carrying out research projects in a clinical or laboratory environment.   This position will be in support of the Department of Neurology at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda Maryland in the laboratory of Dr. David Brody, MD PhD https://www.usuhs.edu/profile/david-brody-md-phd   The Research Associate will provide support for a new research project entitled “Acute Anomalous Health Incident Investigations.” The goal of the project is to better understand the currently unexplained events reported by US Government personnel in many locations around the world. https://media.defense.gov/2021/Sep/15/2002855031/-1/-1/1/Anomalous-Health-Incidents.PDF   Anomalous health incidents were previous referred to as “Havana Syndrome” in the popular press. At present, very little is known about the acute phase of these events.   Dr. Brody and other members of the research team will be traveling to sites where anomalous health incidents have been reported to perform neurological evaluations, obtain MRI scans, and collect blood samples form affected individuals as well as controls. The blood samples will be shipped back to the laboratory on dry ice for storage and analysis.   This research will involve controlled unclassified information (CUI) only and will not require a security clearance for the Research Associate. No classified information will be obtained.   The project is funded for 1 year, and may be renewed for 2-4 additional years contingent upon technical success and further availability of funds.

Within the Directorate is the NMRC Clinical Trials Center (CTC), a 3,500 square foot state-of-the-art facility located in Bethesda, MD that is equipped to conduct Phase 1 and 2 outpatient clinical trials. The NMRC CTC evaluates vaccines, therapeutics, prophylactics, and medical devices in human subjects to suitably advance innovative products from the laboratory to the front line and maximize the medical readiness of the Warfighter. CDP’s role in the VALMS contract centers on the development and delivery of trainings in how to appropriately adapt evidenced based psychotherapies (EBPs) for suicide prevention (SP) to specific subpopulations within the broader veteran community. The AD will provide coordination between CDP, Veterans Affairs (VA) stakeholders and CDP’s contractual partners to ensure that the work products and deliverables are high quality. This position requires a strong knowledge base in the suicide prevention literature, especially as it relates to military veterans. Candidates with experience in culturally sensitive adaptations to EBPs and or experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for SP, Problem Solving Therapy for SP and Dialectic Behavior Therapy for SP are strongly preferred.   This position will be in support of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences’ Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP), which is based in Rockville, MD. Somewhat knowledgeable of business unit policies.This is the first of three Administrative Assistant Levels. This level is distinguished by moderate judgment in resolving problems of limited complexity.   This position will be in support of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Program Committee Office (IACUC) unit within the Office of the Assistant Vice President for Research (VPR) located at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS) in Bethesda, MD.   Note: This work site requires that Non-US Citizen incumbents have lived in the US three out of the past five years.
