HJF is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow to support the Department of Medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USU, https://www.usuhs.edu/) in Bethesda, Maryland. The incumbent will be responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. Pursuits research along a focused line of inquiry and has a manuscript in development. The lab focuses on understanding mechanisms of molecular recognition in human disease with the goal to translate that knowledge into medical applications. We apply structural biology, structure- function analysis and other biochemical and biophysical tools to elucidate the molecular basis of the mechanisms involved in adaptive responses to HIV-1 and SARS-CoV2 with the ultimate goal of generating basic knowledge and developing new vaccines, small compounds or antibody/protein therapeutics.

HJF is seeking a Computational Biologist III will serve as a lead analyst for CMPH in the Data Science Division. They will analyze sequencing data generated at our genome center in order identify pathogenic variants, subtypes and genetic signatures associated with specific diseases through bioinformatics and machine learning methods. Sequencing data to analyze will include spatial sequencing, single cell sequencing, whole genome, bulk RNA sequencing. HJF is seeking Research Assistant(s) responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team. The Research Assistant(s) will be responsible for supporting and carrying out groundbreaking research projects within a multi-disciplinary research team consisting of postdoctoral fellows, scientific investigators, and clinical leaders. Candidates should have a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, genetics, or biology. 1) Profile hormonal and metabolic indicators of diurnal cycle or sleep disruption and elucidate the molecular mechanism(s) of circadian dysfunction impacting prostate cancer.
2) Define the signatures of exposure to environmental carcinogens and xenobiotic compounds that alter the genomic, proteomic, and metabolic landscape of prostate cancer patients.

HJF is seeking a Clinical Research Assistant to perform data collection by conducting research interviews in support of National Guard Programs, including Integrated Primary Prevention and Behavioral Health Programs, and support program development and evaluation. The Clinical Research Assistant will recruit and screen subjects for research studies and collects baseline and follow up data from subjects. This is the first of four levels of clinical research assistants and works under the guidance and direction of senior staff.

This position will be in support of translational and clinical research within the Infectious Diseases Directorate (IDD) at the Naval Medical Research Command (NMRC). The incumbent is tasked with supporting and conducting high-quality translational and clinical research to facilitate the development of infectious disease countermeasures for US military personnel. Within the Directorate is the NMRC Clinical Trials Center (CTC), a 3,500 square foot state-of-the-art facility located in Bethesda, MD that is equipped to conduct Phase 1 and 2 outpatient clinical trials. The NMRC CTC evaluates vaccines, therapeutics, prophylactics, and medical devices in human subjects to suitably advance innovative products from the laboratory to the front line and maximize the medical readiness of the Warfighter. This position will work within the NMRC CTC to support those clinical trial activities.

A postdoctoral fellow position is immediately available within the laboratory of Dr. Ayesha Shafi who is seeking a highly motivated person to fill the position of Postdoctoral Fellow. This position provides excellent opportunities for continued scientific development and contributions at the interface between research and administration in a dynamic laboratory environment and larger interdisciplinary setting. The Shafi laboratory interests include the characterization of comprehensive molecular signatures, survival pathways and associated rational therapeutic targets in lethal prostate cancers, with a specific focus on circadian dysfunction, DNA repair, nuclear receptor function, environmental exposure, and their role in disease progression and therapeutic resistance. To achieve this, we generate and utilize novel genetically engineered in vitro and ex vivo models including human cells lines, human explant tissue, and human & mouse 3D organoid cultures, therapeutics, functional genomics, and molecular and genomic approaches (including next generation sequencing platforms, and CRISPR/Cas9 technology).
The Postdoctoral Fellow will be responsible for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team consisting of scientific and clinical investigators. Candidates should have a working knowledge of molecular biology, DNA damage repair, biochemistry, 3D organoid and in vitro modeling and basic knowledge of bulk omics and desire to learn spatial profiling. HJF is seeking a Research Physician, Global Infectious Diseases to be based at HJF in Bethesda, Maryland, and Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (WRAIR) in Silver Spring, Maryland, supporting clinical research activities conducted by the WRAIR Military HIV Research Program (MHRP), the Emerging Infectious Disease Branch (EID), and other affiliated programs. The CDP is seeking an experienced mental health outreach and project coordinator to fill the position of SBHP Military Behavioral Health Licensed Professional related to the expansion of the Star Behavioral Health Providers Program. The SBHP Program targets civilian community providers serving the military population with an emphasis on members of the National Guard (NG). Our lab is funded by the NIH (NICHD and NIGMS) to assess two major initiatives: 1) Assessment of processes required for genome maintenance (DNA repair, recombination, and chromosome segregation) during mitosis and meiosis. 2) Modeling human gonad development using organoid culture to understand human reproductive development and disease. We seek a candidate for initiating and carrying out research projects in collaboration with a research team.
The ideal candidate will have experience with mouse models and/or mammalian cell culture, particularly human embryonic/pluripotent stem cell culture. An application will also be bolstered by knowledge in methods such as fluorescence microscopy (live cell imaging and/or immunofluorescence microscopy), immuno-histology, molecular biology (DNA cloning, RT-PCR, and protein expression/purification, CRISPR/Cas9 genomic engineering), co-immunoprecipitation, gene targeting/transgenic techniques, and biochemical assays including ELISA, colorimetric, fluorometric, and luminescent assays. Experience with single-cell analyses such as RNA-seq, ATACseq, ChIPseq, etc. are also of interest for our research objectives.
