HJF is seeking a Materials Handler who will be responsible for the receiving, processing, and delivering medical and research equipment, computers and furniture. This also involves tagging, crating, packing, redistribution and disposal of a wide range of accountable and nonaccountable property items. Additional responsibilities include inventory management of furniture stock and preparation of formal transaction and tracking documents for recordation of relocation and disposal of items.

 

This position will be in support of Logistics Division's Receiving Distribution Branch at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), Bethesda, MD.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities

  • Performs warehousing and material handling tasks in accordance with established procedures and proven techniques for the facility.
  • Assists in the safe and secure movement and storage of highly technical, and often delicate, medical research and teaching equipment (e.g., liquid scintillation counters, hoods, sterilizers, etc.), hazardous materials, and a variety of other material.
  • Ensures that each ordered item matches the accompanying purchasing paperwork.
  • Maintains the facility in a clean and orderly manner, including shifting shelving units, relocating books and materials, dusting all shelving, removing all trash, debris, packing material, etc. Locates material in appropriate temporary or permanent storage area according to routine operations or specific oral and/or written instructions.
  • Delivers supplies and incoming materials to the respective departments within the facility. Delivers property utilizing available material handling conveyances. Responsible for orderly locating and storing of material in proper place in property cage, warehouse, and storage building. Delivers equipment to laboratories or operating areas, exercising care and precautions in handling sophisticated research and teaching items.
  • As required, drives vehicles when delivering items between geographically separated locations.
  • Independently accomplishes duties in accordance with established plans and procedures, generally determining the methods and techniques to be used. Complete work is periodically reviewed to ensure proper use of plans, procedures, and methods.
  • Performs assembly, disassembly and set up of office and laboratory furniture and laboratory equipment.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

 

Qualifications

 

 

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or GED
  • Minimum of 0-2 years experience required.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to perform a wide range of warehouse operations for the facility including the handling and delivery of material and equipment, storage and safekeeping of material; ability to follow both written and oral directions.
  • Knowledge of the warehouse plan and warehousing systems of operations as well as accepted materials handling methods, procedures and techniques. Requires knowledge and skill in operating materials handling conveyances including forklifts, mechanized and manual pallet jacks, delivery carts, hand trucks, dollies and others to stack, move, and arrange items on pallets which require consideration of height and special requirements.
  • Knowledge of the operation of a computer terminal in order to ensure correctness of quantities, identification criteria, and labelling. Knowledge of documentation associated with inspecting, accepting and preparing items for issue, disposal and other disposition.
  • Knowledge of the safe handling, storage, and movement of hazardous materials to ensure regulatory and safety requirements are met.
  • General knowledge of property book operations and property accountability procedures as they impact warehousing, handling and processing of equipment items.
  • Capable of manual labor including stacking boxes for storage, climbing ladders, and walking and standing extensively. Works and stands on hard surfaces. Bends, stoops, and works in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Removes and moves objects weighing up.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/Public Trust background check

Physical Capabilities

 

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to climb, pull, and lift heavy objects.
  • Operating motor vehicles, machinery, and/or power tools

Work Environment

  • This position will take place in an office, clinic, laboratory, or hospital setting.
