We are looking for an outstanding Technology Transfer Associate to join our Technology Transfer (T2) team. The T2 team is helping drive research and commercialization success at HJF and military research and treatment facilities. As our newest teammate, you will have an opportunity to grow and collaborate with an inspiring collection of researchers, innovators, and staff members who are passionate about advancing military medicine through research and commercialization. This position, with multiple telework options, is a report within the T2 office under the Sr. Vice President for Research Administration & Innovation Management (RAIM) at HJF.

 

Working directly with scientists, clinicians, military and academic partners, and industry, you will enable military medical research, innovation & commercialization through the drafting and negotiation of contracts that include commercialization agreements, create innovation evaluation and development plans, and perform outreach by the responsibilities below. 

 

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine, Inc. (HJF) is a global organization dedicated to advancing military medical research. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing, and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. HJF is a not-for-profit that is authorized by Congress to support research throughout the military medical system. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners.

Responsibilities

  • Engagement/relationship building and management: Liaise with HJF personnel, engage with external stakeholders, and serve as an advisor on innovation and commercialization matters.
  • Lead in innovation and commercialization outreach and education for researcher and project managers. Engage with industry, investors, entrepreneurs, and relevant thought leaders to propel innovation development and commercialization activities.
  • Work with the Technology Transfer team to elicit, assess, and protect new military medical innovations and collaborate to prepare marketing materials and engage potential commercialization partners.
  • Lead in drafting and negotiating license agreements, IIAs, CRADAs, MTAs, NDAs, and Data Sharing Agreements.
  • Interface with HJF and military researchers to discuss research developments and understand new inventions.
  • Supervision of interns and mentoring of staff
  • Additional duties as needed including participation in new initiatives, such as the HJF Military Medical Innovation Ecosystem.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Master's degree in biomedical sciences or related field is required. An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted. 
  • Medical degree or doctoral degree in a life science-related field is preferred. Candidates with legal backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience required. 

 

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

  • Significant experience in technology transfer and contracting.
  • Negotiation, intellectual property, marketing, and licensing experience. 
  • Must have knowledge of patent prosecution. 
  • Significant experience in university or federal laboratory technology transfer activities. Relevant industry experience is advantageous.
  • Excellent communicator and ability to provide excellent customer support to all stakeholders of a research enterprise.
  • Sound decision-making skills and balanced judgment, with the flexibility of thought and style needed to maximize interactions with military research and commercialization stakeholders.
  • Dependable team member and ability to work well within a dynamic, results-oriented group.

 

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

 

Some positions or sites may require that the incumbent be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Proof of vaccination may be required.
